Are Tottenham set to hijack Arsenal’s move for M’Vila?

Are Tottenham in for M’Vila and, if so, how do we feel about that? by SV

There are still many commentators on Twitter that think that Yann M’Vila is absolutely certain to be an Arsenal player next season, but today, there are rumours circulating that Tottenham have launched their own bid to take French midfielder Yann M’Vila to Sh*te Hart Lane. And by the way, I use the term ‘rumour’ very loosely, because as I write this, these are nothing but vague statements from Twitter users (albeit fairly reliable ones. I have heard rumblings of the news in the past, with the Mail and Metro both reporting it. The Metro said the following about a possible move:

“Yann M’Vila has emerged as a transfer target for Spurs, after Arsenal ended their interest in the Rennes midfielder.

The France international was expected to move to the Emirates Stadium this summer, but Gunners boss Arsene Wenger decided against pursuing his interest after rumours the player had been disruptive during Euro 2012.

However, M’Vila could still be on his way to London before the beginning of the new season.

Spurs are now the club most interested in signing the 22-year-old and a £9.5 million offer is being prepared, reports Le 10 Sport.

White Hart Lane officials have apparently already met the player’s representatives to discuss the possible move and the only issue left to resolve is the transfer fee.

Rennes value M’Vila at £12 million and hope Tottenham’s interest will persuade other clubs to bid.”

Of course, this is your run of the mill article and has could be total bollocks. However, the rumour does make sense; since we were interested in the player, it was only a matter of time before the Spuds launched their own bid.

However, I am not, at the moment, concerned with how likely any potential transfer is. What I am more interested in is how Arsenal fans would feel about a Mr. M’Vila moving to another EPL side, especially if that EPL side were Tottenham. I, personally, was quite disappointed when I heard that our interest in the Frenchman had cooled, as I believed that he could have been the perfect partner for Song. When everyone was all but sure that M’Vila was an Arsenal player, I envisioned M’Vila sitting as a pure destructor, allowing Song to venture further forward with a box to box role.

But, in the end, I trust Arsene Wenger’s judgement. If he thought that M’Vila wasn’t the correct option, then M’Vila probably wasn’t the right man for us. As it states above, most people think that M’Vila’s disciplinary record and disruptive nature are the reasons why we cooled our interest in him. If this is truly the case, then I fervently hope that he does indeed sign for the Spuds, because we all know how good Andre Villas-Boas is at dealing with big characters…
