Who will be Arsenal’s new defender?

Arsene’s defender chase by AH

At the moment we have two defensive injures with both Laurent Koscienly and Bacary Sagna sidelined through injury. Koscienly is expected to return for the upcoming game against Stoke City on Sunday, whilst Sagna will be out of the first team for a number of weeks, as he continues to recover from his second leg break in under a year.

Arsene Wenger, whilst speaking to Arsenal.com, has recognised this, and he revealed he may bring in a defender before the close of the transfer window. Montpellier’s Yanga-Mbwia and Cheikh M’Bengue are reportedly the main targets.

“We are looking to bring one more midfielder in of course, and maybe one defender as well because we still feel we are short in some positions” Wenger told the club’s official website.

Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, has been subject to a lot of interest from many clubs and Arsenal are reported to have had a low bid turned down. He is able to play in various positions, and it’s no secret that we are looking for a versatile defender and so there’s a real chance he could be subject of another bid from Arsenal. However it’s worth noting that his current club is Montpellier and they may not want to sell us two of their best players in one window, following the departure of star striker Oliver Giroud.

Cheikh M’Bengue has recently admitted that he is flattered by the interest from Arsenal, and is open to the prospect of a move to England. He also revealed that Arsenal have been in contact with his club.

“When a big club like that think of you, it’s nice. It’s really flattering. In addition to the Premier League is a championship where I want to evolve,” M’Bengue told French media outlet L’Equipe. “I had not planned to leave, I have two year contract. But Arsenal, it cannot be refused if everyone is benefiting.”

So it’s certain that Wenger is keeping an eye on the defensive market, however whether either of those two join the club is yet to be known. Mamadou Sakho of PSG has also been linked with a move to The Emirates Stadium. Who would you most like to see as a new Gunner?
