Koscienly set to sign a new contract with Arsenal by AH
According to various sources, Laurent Koscienly has verbally agreed on new terms with Arsenal and he is set to sign a new contract in the coming days.
The past few weeks have been eventful, with lots of players at Arsenal being contacted over new contract negotiations.
Van Persie is obviously the main culprit and now that he seems like he certainly wants to leave, the club must move on to the other players in question.
Theo Walcott is set to talk with Arsenal officials during this year’s Asia tour, as will Alex Song. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mikel Arteta are also rumoured to be contacted soon over improved terms after impressive seasons respectively. Whilst Bacary Sanga is also on Arsenal’s contract wish list as he only has 2 years remaining on his current deal.
The club will also make a decision on Andrei Arshavin in the coming weeks, as they must come to the decision whether to sell him or offer the Russian a new contract, else he too will walk away for free next summer.
Back to Laurent Koscienly, the defender’s current contract runs out in 2014, having signed a 4 year contract in 2010. Since then the Frenchman has improved greatly, and he has arguably become our best defender.
In the last few days, Koscienly has been linked with both Inter Milan and Barcelona, as they are both on the hunt to find a replacement for their aging defenders.
This year he made 42 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring three times – including a goal winning header in Arsenal’s 3-2 win against West Brom on the last day of the Premier League season that gave Arsenal Champions League football ahead of North London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur.
The player’s agent is in London today finalizing negotiations, and hopefully the club will be able to make an official announcement in the next few days
