Arsenal are in for Lewandowski! by KJ
After the heart-breaking news that we learnt of a couple of days ago, the rumour mill is churning out that Arsenal are interested in replacing Van Persie with quality rather than promoting from within the ranks. This news does come from the Daily Mail so I urge you take a pinch of salt with this whole article.
The player being touted at the moment is none other than the classy Robert Lewandowski of Borussia Dortmund.
Lewandowski is an established Polish international who played a key part for Borussia Dortmunds title challenge this season. In his 34 appearances, he managed to score an impressive 22 goals in the league which is nothing short of world class. I watched a bit of Dortmund last season (admittedly to watch the youngster Mario Goetze) but was pleasantly surprised by how the Pole had taken the gauntlet from Lucas Barrios. He really grew into his role at Dortmund.
My only problem is that he’s similar to Giroud. He isn’t as tall and is slightly more technical but he is like a target man who brings players into the game. He had that partnership with Kagawa last season. Arsenal personally, needs variation in strikers if they really want to exploit teams in the league this season. Still, it would be a great signing for Arsenal.
My other problem is that Man Utd were interested in his signature but from what I can understand, interest has either wavered or Dortmund have shown the intent that they are not willing to lose another star player. If it’s the second one, we will struggle to actually force Dortmund into selling.
He would be a great addition to Arsenal but I just don’t see it. He will be relatively expensive (£20 million) as well as being similar to a player that we’ve recently just bought.
