Would Demba Ba be good for Arsenal?

Arsenal should not be looking at Demba Ba by KJ

There of course has been a lot of talk regarding Arsenal signing a new striker and naturally, many names have been put forward. There has been one that completely puzzles me and that’s people calling for Demba Ba.

Now don’t get me wrong; Ba has had a great season for Newcastle. He managed to score a decent tally of 16 goals and 2 assists. However, this is only impressive for a mid-table club. Although Newcastle have had a really impressive season, I just don’t see them replicating that next year even if they manage to hold onto Cisse, Ba, Cabaye and Arfa.

The positives of the Senegalese striker are that he is clearly a physical threat who can act like a target man. He is also clearly quite decent with his feet. Now the reasoning behind such a poor second half of the season lends to the fact that he was primarily deployed as a winger as his Senegalese colleague dominated as main striker.

The negatives are, even if Ba was used mainly as a winger because of Cisse, he still should’ve been able to keep his goal scoring record ticking. The likes of Podolski who is mainly a striker is able to do so for Germany, so why can’t Ba (if he’s being considered as our main striker)? He has also got some injury issues as his medical at Stoke was unsuccessful because of ligament damage in his knee. Stoke officials called it an accident waiting to happen.

There is no doubt that Ba is a good striker. But he is definitely not a great striker. He looks average in comparison to the likes of Falcao/Cavani/Llorente (players that Wenger should be looking at to replace RVP).
