Kompany Praises van Persie While Vermaelen Says the Dutchman ‘looks fit and sharp’ by AM
Robin van Persie seemed to have found another new admirer in Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany. In an Interview to Sky, Kompany said –
“It’s very easy to say you want to play next to Robin van Persie. He’s a great player. He’s proved it so many times last season and any team he would play for, he’d make it stronger.”
Although Roberto Mancini shares a similar admiration for van Persie, the Italian tactician has already conceded defeat in the race to sign the Dutchman, apparently. Mancini has already vented his frustration with the club’s lack of spending in the transfer market this season, as he sees his primary target Robin van Persie edging towards a possible move to the ‘other’ club in Manchester. Mancini problems were compounded by the fact that van Persie was unwilling to join City and follow in the footsteps of Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy last season.
Meanwhile, Vincent Kompany’s defensive partner in the Belgium national team, Thomas Vermaelen, has restrained himself from commenting on van Persie’s future at the club. The Arsenal defender has said in an interview –
“To me he looks fit and sharp in training. He’s working hard. He’s working on his fitness. I don’t see anything (different) and I hope he stays the next four years as well.
“I don’t know what happens behind the scenes but at the moment I can only say he’s a player for Arsenal.
“I feel really positive for the new season. If we all stay fit, the squad is strong enough to compete for the title.”
