Belgian international Kevin Mirallas told the media earlier this week that his representatives had spoken to Arsenal about a potential move to the Emirates from the Greek side Olympiacos. The 24-year old said he was keen on a move to the Premier league, and his price tag of around £6 million seemed very reasonable. Mirallas will not be playing for Arsenal, however, after Talksport reports that the player and his club have agreed terms with Everton.
Mirallas can play anywhere along the front line, and topped the Greek scoring tables last season with 20 league goals. I think that maybe the “interest” from Arsenal and Arsene Wenger could have been overstated to force Everton to move quickly. No disrespect to David Moyes’ side, but they could not outbid us or offer a more attractive proposition. The only thing that Everton could offer Mirallas over Arsenal is playing time.
Perhaps Mirallas has looked at the likes of Nicklas Bendtner and Marouane Chamakh and decided to ease himself in to English football. More likely is that Wenger does not need another bench warmer.
Arsenal’s 19-year old Brazilian, Wellington Silva, is being given another chance to prove himself in Spain. After previous loan deals to Levante and Alcoyano, the youngster is heading to the Spanish second division side Ponferradina. Silva desperately needs to get some playing experience, and could be the first in a number of Arsenal youngsters to join the Spanish club on loan. Spanish paper AS believes that the two clubs have made a formal arrangement.
