Arsenal to move for Newcastle midfielder

Posted on August 27, 2012 by Bob

Arsenal are apparently preparing a £15 million offer for a midfielder from Newcastle United, but it is not the one we were expecting. Most Arsenal fans believe that a strong defensive midfielder is the priority for the Gunners, and we were being linked with Newcstle’s 26-year old Ivorian Cheick Tiote who is a tough tackling midfielder.

Arsene Wenger poured cold water on to that suggestion after yesterday’s match after he was asked directly about Tiote.

“Tiote is a good player but he is not on his way to Arsenal.”

Wenger may actually be going for a more dynamic, box to box player in Newcastle’s French international, Yohan Cabaye, according to the Daily Mail. Wenger has revealed that he would be willing to make additions in any position if he thought it would add quality to the squad.

Cabaye has settled brilliantly in to English football since his move from Lillie last summer. He covered more miles than any other Newcastle player last season, passes well and has a fierce shot. Alan Pardew will not want to lose him but may be tempted to make a £10 million profit on the 26-year old.

If hhe does become a Gunner, that will still leave Arsenal needing another striker, defender and defensive midfielder, so it could be a busy week for Le Prof.
