Podolski Makes A Good First Impression by AH
Arséne Wenger has told the media that he will include new signing Lukas Podolski in the squad for the opening game against Sunderland at The Emirates this weekend.
Podolski is one of the three new signings that have joined the Arsenal squad this summer, and reports suggest he has been very impressive during training sessions, and he showed his value, scoring two goals, against his former club FC Koln.
On Podolski, Wenger said;
‘We are very pleased with him. He will make the squad [against Sunderland] in any case and he has a very good chance of starting the match.
‘He’s not at 100 per cent physically. The running is still missing a little bit but we will sort that out. We know that he can score goals.’
Podolski’s performance certainly impressed me, as he scored two goals, and played a beautiful ‘one – two’ with Gervinho, that lead to the Ivorian’s goal.
There have been no other suggestions about what the squad will look like for the opening game, but I would expect the team to be;
Szczseny
Koscienly (if fit) Mertesacker Vermaelen Gibbs
Song Arteta( if fit)
Cazorla
Walcott (if fit) RVP/Giroud Podolski
The team looks pretty strong, despite injuries to some major players, and that’s what we need a strong squad, filled with quality players.
Robin Van Persie or Oliver Giroud will be the main talking point, and I’m sure it will determine the outcome of the Dutchman’s future. But we must also remember that there’s an International friendly game coming up in the week, with many of our players called up.
Arsenal can ill afford to pick up any more injuries before the season starts, and we should be set for a much better start than last season.
