23-year old England international and speed merchant Theo Walcott will soon put pen to paper on a new contract that ensures he will be a Gunner for years to come. There had been rumours that the player was undecided and was being courted by Liverpool and Chelsea, but he has decided to commit his future to Arsenal.
Walcott pulled out of the midweek friendly against Italy with a slight thigh problem, but is likely to make at least the bench for Arsenal’s opener against Sunderland tomorrow. Arsene Wenger may finally be ready to give Walcott the chance to prove himself as a striker rather than a winger after he showed a significany improvement last season and during the summer.
Many thought that Theo was waiting to see whether Robin van Persie stayed at the club before he committed his own future. Maybe he did, but not the way we thought. It is possible that the departure of the orange flop has given Walcott the opportunity he craves to be the next Arsenal goal scoring legend.
If Walcott can successfully move inside and hone his finishing, it will make Wenger the undisputed heavyweight champion of turning wingers in to strikers. Thierry Henry and Robin van Persie played on the wing until Le Prof got his hands on them, so could he do the same with Walcott?
