Arsene Wenger is well aware that Arsenal have lost a goalscoring genius in Robin Van Persie, but he is certain that the Gunners new arrivals and our midfielders have the ability to make up for our loss.
After ending the first two League games without a goal it was obvious that the Arsenal-loving media (sarcasm!) would try and badger Wenger by saying that Van Persie is being sorely missed by the squad, and Wenger responded by saying that the team will surely come good in the end.
He said: “If you want to convince me we lost an exceptional player [in Robin van Persie] you are wasting your time. I was the first to say that. We have to find a way to get around that by sharing more of the goals than we did before with Van Persie.
“Last season, Giroud scored 20, Podolski scored 20. We will get some goals I’m convinced from Abou Diaby, Aaron Ramsay, Theo Walcott, Gervinho, so we have of course to share it around a bit.”
Of course we are all certain the Giroud and Podolski will be knocking them in once they get into their rhythm, and Theo Walcott will be hoping to improve yet again on his 11 goals from last season, but the other three only contributed seven goals between them in the last campaign.
I would have preferred it if Wenger had said that Cazorla, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mikel Arteta would contribute to the goals, because those three should be on the teamsheet in front of Ramsey, Diaby and Gervinho in my opinion, but maybe not Wenger’s……
