Steve Bould’s take on Arsenal’s strike force by AH
Steve Bould took over the position of assistant manager to Arséne Wenger this summer and he has made a huge impact on the defensive side of this new look Arsenal team.
Seen as a defensively minded person, following his career in the defence position, many doubted his approach to Arsenal’s attacking style of football, however he has integrated his defensive work into an Arsenal team that now work hard to defend and attack as a team and not just individuals. On Arsenal’s two summer signing strikers, Bould said;
“I have not seen many finishers as good as Podolski throughout my career. He has made a huge impact on everyone at Arsenal, both on match days and in the build-up to games. In training, right foot or left foot, his shots fly in at 100mph. He has really added something this year and while I’m not getting involved in whether we are missing Robin (Van Persie), it is clear that we have signed a great player in Podolski.”
“Olivier is doing a really good team job for the team and I’m sure the goals will come for him. As someone who appreciates the needs for the whole team to contribute to defending against set-plays, I have to say he is fabulous. He is a really hard-working boy.”
Bould is not the first to recognise the striking talent we have on our hands and, although Podolski has become the main man due to his fast transition to the premier league, we cannot forget that Giroud is also a top quality striker. With 21 league goals last season, he was the top scorer of France’s Ligue 1 and that certainly proves what a quality striker we have, he may not be delivering now, but everyone with good knowledge about the game seems to think he will start to come good soon and when the first goal comes, the rest will start flying in.
