I have some good news for Gooners! by AH
Now, please take note that the title is sarcastic, but I thought that this recent piece of news would be good to share with the readers on justarsenal.com.
According to a few media outlets including the Daily Mail, Mikael Silvestre will soon return to Arsenal to train with the Gunners after he was released from Werder Bremen, following his two year stint at the club. The defender spent two years at Arsenal as well following his transfer from Manchester United, for a reported £ 500,000. The former French international made 26 league appearances for Arsenal, scoring 3 goals.
Now, Silvestre has come back to train with Arsenal in order to keep fit, as the 35 year old is on the lookout for a new club. But I wouldn’t be surprised if he does end up joining us on a short term contract until the end of the season, in order to provide cover for both the left back spot and central defence.
In no way would I like Arsenal to re-sign Silvestre, I don’t think any Arsenal fan would want Silvestre back, but it’s just a thought. Wenger has brought back Sol Campbell, Thierry Henry and Jens Lehmann in recent seasons. Lehmann was understandable as we needed quick cover in the goalkeeping position, but the other two mentioned players came back to Arsenal after impressing Wenger in training. Robert Pires also was also reportedly being brought back after training with the club, just before he signed for Aston Villa.
So, just to reiterate, I don’t want Mikael Silvestre back at Arsenal. There is no way he could do a good job for us now, when he couldn’t do a good job for us a few seasons back. I’m just saying that if he impresses Wenger in training then I wouldn’t be surprised to see him come back for short term cover to the defence.
