International break is over and now it seems the media have switched their attention back to who may be moving where, come the January transfer window. In a shock report, The Sun are claiming that Arsenal have made an attempt to prise Didier Drogba away from Shanghai Shenua. Its no secret the Chinese club is experiencing some jitters as a row between the club’s owners have thrown the 34 year old’s future into doubt.
However, it should be noted that Shanghai Shenhua are unable to pay Drogba’s wages which has led to speculation that the Ivory Coast international may be drawn into returning to Europe. If I’m honest, this doesn’t sound like the type of player Arsenal would be in the market for. Even if Drogba came out today and stated he wants to move clubs, Arsenal wouldn’t be a club I would link to his return. Why? Well because Arsenal have a striker, Olivier Giroud. Secondly, Drogba is 34 years old and was unwanted by Chelsea so why would Arsenal want him? Thirdly he’ll probably have a hefty release clause and Arsenal wouldn’t be able to compete with his wages. Lastly, Drogba has openly insisted that he’s not leaving China, although it should be noted that this was before the wage problems.
So with that in mind, let the media say what they will. Unless Arsenal suddenly have a change of policy, Drogba won’t be seen playing at the Emirates any time soon. Or will he? Maybe Arsenal wouldn’t buy him but that’s not to say other clubs won’t be interested in prying the striker away. Liverpool are in desperate need for a striker after failing to replace Andy Carroll so who knows?
If there’s one player I regard as a top striker, it would be Didier Drogba. It would be awesome to see him in an Arsenal shirt and I could even picture him coming on for the Gunners in the last 20min as a super sub but the fact remains, that this is just speculation. Drogba’s future at Shanghai Shenhua may be in doubt but I feel his future at Arsenal will never start.
