Walcott to go from Gunner to Goner?

Arsenal to sell Walcott in January? by KJ

The Englishman’s contract situation has been well documented this summer. He’s only got one year left and is holding out for a contract worth £100k a week – something Arsenal simply won’t pay. It is looking ever more likely that Theo Walcott will leave the Gunners and I want to analyse the two options:

Let him run down his contract: This is an option which I thought would be impossible for a team like Arsenal. Wenger made it clear with the Van Persie situation that any player with only one year on his contract would be sold. And yet, 2 weeks later, he allows Walcott to stay without signing a new contract. Very strange. Wenger is a good judge of character and may see Walcott as a player who will commit himself. However, It is a very risky strategy that I wouldn’t associate with Wenger at all.

Sell him in January: This is the more likely option if Theo hasn’t signed. I can’t see why we would keep him any longer. Wenger has already set the precedent to him that we don’t actually need him anymore and can play numerous players in his position. I can see us getting up to £10m for him in January. That is a ridiculous amount considering we paid more for him when he was only 16. I’d hope Wenger would reinvest that money into a new player but there aren’t many as good as Walcott available.

All in all, this all hinges on what he does with his contract. If he hasn’t signed before January, we have to sell him. There are no two ways about it. We can’t afford to lose the potential of making £10m. Walcott is just not that good. I do hope that the Englishman does sign a contract extension for Arsenal. He still owes this club a lot and has his best years to come.

If Walcott is to leave in January, who would you want as his replacement?
