Benik Afobe loan deal can benefit Bolton AND Arsenal

Arsenal’s Afobe on loan to Bolton! by KJ

Arsenal have announced that Benik Afobe will go on loan to Bolton for coming season. Bolton unfortunately were relegated to the Championship but are hopeful on returning to their rightful place in the Premier League.

I like Bolton. They’re an honest club with a quality manager. They’re very different from Arsenal in the sense that they’re more physical and depend more on long balls but this is certainly a positive for Arsenal players that are loaned there as they get to learn the physical side of the game. It greatly benefited Wilshere and Miyaichi would’ve learnt a lot with Coyle.

It will be great experience for Afobe who can learn his trade in a more physical league. I’m also hoping that Bolton will give him the majority of starts available. I think Owen Coyle appreciates how effective the technical ability of an Arsenal player can have on a squad that seems to lack that very quality.

Afobe is quick, strong and has been moulded into a very effective target man. He is aggressive and likes to assert himself amongst the defenders. Already, at only 19, he’s already proving to be a better asset than Maroune Chamakh. That was demonstrated in the tour whenever Chamakh was substituted off for Afobe – there was a distinct difference in attitude and hunger.

His build and attributes are similar to that of Giroud so even when he returns, he can be taught a thing or two by our recently acquired Frenchman.

This will really be a great deal of experience for Afobe and I hope he can help (as he did with Reading) promote Bolton to the Premier League. Arsenal in terms of loans have built a great relationship with Owen Coyle and this can be very fortuitous in the future.

Future Arsenal and England star striker – Benik Afobe (plus video)

Don’t Rule Out Benik Afobe – by JG

The England U-19 international and Arsenal striker Benik Afobe could well be on the path to promotion to the first team. The young Lions have been doing well in the European Championships and Benik Afobe is their leading man up front.

“England took a further step towards the semi-final of the European Championship in Estonia, as a hard fought victory over Serbia sees them in a commanding position in Group B going into Monday’s final set of games and also with a place at next summer’s FIFA U20 World Cup secured” ~ TheFA.com

Afobe’s record speaks for itself, in 34 appearances for the England international youth squads he has scored 21 goals (according to wikipedia). Almost all of Afobe’s performances for England have been outstanding. The footballing community (coaches, trainers etc.) have praised his abilities on many occasions and have agreed that he will reach the top level very soon.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Afobe was called up to the first team to take the place of one of the 4th or 5th place strikers, but I may be overestimating that decision by a year. Maybe once Vela finally completes his departure then Afobe can snag that position and possibly go out on loan to a a premiership side. This is all hypothetical I know. In the end, Wenger will know what’s best for Afobe and the team.

Below is a slightly dated but adequate video compiling some of Afobe’s somewhat recent performances. I wish I could have found a better video because he has vastly improved since December of 2010; but for those of you who haven’t seen him play at all, it will suffice. Let us know what you think.
