Wilshere worried about Fabregas playing tomorrow

ESPN are reporting that Arsenal are still waiting to hear the latest news about Cesc Fabregas’ thigh injury, which may see him miss the return leg of Arsenal’s Champions League tie against Barcelona at the Camp Nou. The Gunners will already be without Robin van Persie and Theo Walcott and will feel a lot less confident about the game without their captain.

Fabregas did not take part in Arsenal’s Carling Cup defeat against Birmingham City as well as the draw against Sunderland but Jack Wilshere hopes that their captain will be able to get fit in time for the crucial Champions League game.

He said: “He is our captain, our leader, and is great on the pitch. He is probably our best player. This is a massive week. We will recover from the Sunderland match, focus on Tuesday and then be ready for the FA Cup. Losing the Carling Cup only makes us hungrier”.

Arsenal manger Arsène Wenger said that Fabregas’ fitness will be tested today but that Alex Song is still suffering from a knee injury and won’t make the trip to Barcelona. He said: “Alex Song has not been on the field at all. We will make a test on Cesc on Monday”.

Meanwhile Barcelona have their own team selection worries as Carles Puyol has not yet recovered from a knee injury and Gerard Pique will have to sit out the game because of a ban. Barcelona will have to set up a make-shift central defence with midfielder Sergio Busquets and left-back Eric Abidal being the likely candidates.
