WHAT FORMATION WILL ARSENAL PLAY NEXT SEASON? AND WHAT WILL OUR STARTING XI LOOK LIKE? by AH
With the recent additions of Lukas Podolski and Oliver Giroud and the potential departure of Robin Van Persie, Arsenal fans have been wondering what formation Arsene Wenger’s side will be lining up as next season.
So last season we played, 4-2-1-3, with;
Sanga, Koscienly, Vermaelen, Gibbs
Song Arteta
Rosicky/Ramsey
Walcott RVP Gervinho/AOC
But with the return of Wilshere and for some peoples taste – Mertesacker, it leaves questions on if the formation will change or if some of the star players from last season will be dropped. And by that I mean the midfield. Song, Arteta and Rosicky were all top performers last season, so when Wilshere returns, who will drop out for him or will he have to sit on the bench.
I personally think that last season’s formation worked well and it fits our passing style perfectly, but this coming season we find ourselves with Wilshere, possibly M’Vila and another CAM. Plus Diaby although no doubt he’ll get injured again so I won’t put him in the line-ups either.
So this would be my team;
Szczesny
Sagna Koscienly Vermaelen Gibbs
Song/M’Vila Arteta
Wilshere
Walcott(if he stays) Giroud Podolski
By looking at that, it certainly doesn’t have that amazing factor, but I’d say it was still top 4 quality, providing Podolski and Giroud do what they did last season for their respective clubs last season.
So, what does that say? It says we still need to buy more quality additions to add to that starting XI.
For me, rotation is the key to being successful! Just look at other teams that have won trophies in the last 5 years. The have 2-3 players fighting for each spot, challenging and pushing to start the game and so this means no matter who the manager puts out, they have a strong team on the field. I know we can’t compete with the other top clubs financially but if we bought a few more players that would challenge the starters, we could rotate. This would leave our star players fresh, match fit and therefore less prone to getting an injury, which we all know affects our season every year.
What’s your opinion? Put in the comments below, your formation and what players you would put in the starting XI next season.

I hope Arsene changes his formation completely and looks on adopting Serie A Napoli's or Juventus 3-4-2-1 or 3-5-2 formation to influence the short passing and counter attacking Arsene loves and it willl give room to the front three to attack freely having a midfield 4 protecting them and the 3 centre-backs. So for the formation to work, all 4 midielders need to be high in stamina and work rate.
Brazil's 2002 WC winning team has also used this formation to success with Marcos(GK), Roque(RCB), Edmilson(CB), Lucio(LCB), Cafu(RM), Kleberson(RCM), Gilberto Silva(LCM), R.Carlos(LM), Ronaldinho(RF), Rivaldo(LF), Ronaldo(ST).
Transfer season hasn't closed yet and Arsene could make big last minute signings once again, RVP could pull a Wayne Rooney and stay if significant extra signings are made like that of M'Villa and Ganso. So the team could look hopefully look like this using the 3-4-2-1 formation; Sczezny(GK), Koscielny(RCB), Mertesacker/M'Villa(CB), Vermaelen(LCB), Sagna(RM), Song(RCM), Arteta/Wilshere(LCM), Kibbs/Santos(LM), Walcott/Ryo/Gervinho(RF), Podolski/AOC/Ganso(LF), RVP/Podolski/Giroud(ST). Now that looks more like an Arsenal team that could win trophies in my opinion.
