Djourou confirms Arsenal stay and wants another chance….

Posted on July 11, 2012 by admin

The Switzerland international defender Johann Djourou’s agent told us all that his client had some meetings lined up with some Italian clubs and it has been rumoured that he was close to a move to Napoli, after his international manager Otto Hitzfeld stated that he needed to play more regular first team football to retain his place for his country.

But Djourou himself has yet again re-iterated his desire to remain loyal to Arsenal and fight for a place in the Gunners first team. “Naturally. Hitzfeld wants his players to be able to get game time at their respective clubs. I understand that completely,” Djourou said.

When asked if that meant that he had to leave Arsenal, he replied: “No.”

“Arsenal have chosen to extend my contract because they’re counting on me.

“I did have a bad spell. However, I’m convinced that I will get another another chance and that I will grab that chance.”

To be fair to Djourou, he was often played out of position for Arsenal last season when given a chance, but he has rarely reproduced his early promising form even at centre-back. At least he is loyal to Arsenal and perhaps we should be lenient on him as he will only ever be a squad player anyway. And also he is putting his club before his country for a change….
