WILL WALCOTT MAKE A RUN FOR IT? by AH
We all know Theo Walcott’s best attribution is his pace and you have to think will he use it to make a run for it this summer and jump ship, just like Robin Van Persie did on the 4th July.
Like Van Persie, Walcott is in his final year of contract and its vitally important that now Van Persie’s situation is clear, that we move on to the players who actually want to stay at the club.
Walcott has made recent comments about how he loves the club and can’t wait to play next season. He has also spoke about his wingman Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and how he can’t wait for them to link up together.
These are all promising signs and usually these kinds of comments would give a clear indication that he wanted to re-sign with Arsenal. However Van Persie also said statements like this, both recently in the past. I was extremely disappointed that the club didn’t offer Walcott a contract before Euro 2012 and I think he was too.
I feel that this coming season is his year to shine. I firmly believe he is a great asset to have and I can honestly say I have and never will be one of those supports who turn on the players after a bad game. The players need support as a team that helps bind their individual qualities, and we can offer that support as fans. But right now Walcott needs to support us, and sign a new deal.
It’s no rumour that he wants a 100k wage and a 80k contract is supposedly on the table, so let’s hope that unlike Van Persie he stays loyal, as Arsenal have stuck by him all these years.
We must move on and concentrate on the Englishman, who I firmly believe would be a greater loss than a certain Dutchman this summer.
