Arsenal News: Wenger rules out France job + Van Persie must be kept ‘at all costs’

Email

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has ruled himself out of managing the French national team after former manager Laurent Blanc resigned after their disappointing exit in Euro 2012.

Going into the competition France were on the up and seemed to have left their World Cup woes behind them, but in the midst of disappointing results, disagreement and conflict yet again stirred around their camp leading to their eventual elimination.

Wenger is quoted as saying by Goal.com about the French job to Telefoot:

There are a lot of names.

But me, I will be very busy with Arsenal where my contract still runs for two years.

In other news, Wenger has also re-iterated that Arsenal must keep their talisman and captain Robin van Persie at all costs.

Rumours have been hotting up over the future of the Dutchman with both Manchester City and Juventus reported to be the two main interested parties.

But Wenger, like every other Gooner, is hoping Van Persie will ignore these potential moves and stay at the Emirates where Wenger continually supported him through what has largely been an up-and-down career.

Wenger wrote in his blog for Eurosport:

We want to keep Robin van Persie at all costs, because we depend on him offensively.

I have always supported him even in the hardest times, and I hope he will end his career at Arsenal.

Personally, I still think Van Persie owes the club considering last season was the first season he played for Arsenal injury free. The Dutchman spent a lot of time on the treatment table at Arsenal, yet Wenger maintained faith in the Dutchman’s ability to bounce back.

In any case, hopefully the signing of both Podolski and Giroud has gone some way to convincing Van Persie to stay at the Emirates. While the burden for goals has somewhat eased from his shoulders with the new signings, I still have no doubt we will depend on him to put the ball in the back of the net.
