RVP receives offers by KJ

Today it was released that according to Sky Sports sources, Arsenal have received several offers from Robin Van Persie.

It’s no lie that Manchester City were the first club to contact Arsenal about the league’s top scorer last season and its understood that Roberto Mancini’s side have offered the Dutchman a £220,000 wage package. Juventus have also made official contact with two bids on separate occasions, both which have been rejected. Whilst Manchester United are also understood to have contacted Arsenal about the players availability with an enquiry.

It’s still unknown where Van Persie’s future lies, and there have even been recent reports that he has considered his options and has decided to talk with Arsenal some more, this time with an intention of staying with the North London club, however these rumours are pure speculation at this current time and only Van Persie and the club know the real situation.

One thing that is certain however is that the clubs main intention is to keep Van Persie, despite his decision, as club officials are confident they could secure the player on a new contract during the season. This is admittedly a risky path to take however I completely understand the decision and I too believe there is a chance that the club could convince him to stay.

An Arsenal spokesman was quoted on saying that the club was confident that it would be easier to convince the player during the close season, as the player would be approaching 30 years old and therefore less interest would surround the player.

Many fans have called for the board to give RVP whatever wage he wants, but they seem to be clearly forgetting the circumstances that this will face next season. Just think what the reaction would be like if we paid him £200,000 a week and then he got injured again and missed a large chunk of the season. Can he even repeat the kind of performances he did last season? I’m not so sure. Another point is that next summer Van Persie will be closely approaching 30 and when players start to reach retirement age, respective clubs usually decided to lower the player’s wages. That would mean we would have to negotiate a contract that had only just been agreed. It just doesn’t seem to make sense to offer him such a high wage and if that’s all he’s interested in, then I hope he goes.

Van Persie said “Arsenal need to move forward”, well you know what, signing a new contract would be a good start Van Persie.
