Kevin Mirallas Reveals That Talks Are Underway Between Arsenal And Olympiacos by AM
The Belgium international Kevin Mirallas has been linked with a move to Arsenal this summer. The Olympiacos striker had a wonderful season last time around and was the top scorer in the Greek SuperLeague. With his future at the club being the subject of a great deal of speculation, the former Lille forward has confirmed that Arsenal are in talks with Olympiacos regarding his sale.
Mirallas said (to Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad) –
“There is still a chance I will move to the Premier League. My agent is having talks with Arsenal, those rumours are true.
“Only Olympiacos is in the way. They want €8 million [£6m] and not a penny less. But if the move doesn’t come through, I am happy to stay in Athens.”
Nicklas Bendtner is about to leave the club, while the futures of Marouane Chamakh and Park Chu-Young are up for review. It seems like Arsene Wenger is ready to clear some of the deadwood from the squad. Having already brought Lukas Podolski and Giroud, buying a third striker might also signal that Arsenal are preparing for life without Robin van Persie.
Mirallas, who has scored 34 goals in 52 appearances for Olympiacos, could be a fine addition to the squad. Although he prefers to play up-front, he can also play in the role of a wide forward. So even if Robin van Persie decides to join Manchester United this summer, a probable forward line of Podolski-Giroud-Mirallas doesn’t look too shabby, does it?
