Arsenal Debate: Is Wenger finally developing a ruthless streak with his rebels?

Yesterday, the dreaded news that RVP was joining Manchester United was made official by the Arsenal website. However, the news coming from the ever reliable David Ornstein on his recent article describing the final meeting between Wenger highlighted some interesting points:

“It is understood Van Persie was encouraged by the arrivals of Germany forward Lukas Podolski, France striker Olivier Giroud and Spain midfielder Cazorla – to the point where he was open to the idea of staying with or without a new contract.”

“But Wenger pulled him aside shortly before Sunday’s friendly victory over Cologne, told him he would be sold if a deal could be reached and informed the Dutchman he was no longer part of his plans.”

It was in fact Wenger who decided the fate of the Dutchman. He was making the calls here. It’s clear that he is not taking this constant betrayal and pandering to players who aren’t loyal to the club. You just can’t disrespect the club and Wenger like that. The same club that did everything for you. The club that made you.

I’m really enjoying this ruthless streak from Wenger. It looks like he’s finally cracked and he will not tolerate players who are not proud to bear the cannon on their chest. Wenger always has a target up his sleeve and we can always improve.

I just hope that Wenger can finally create a team that is ready to take responsibility for itself and will give it their all.
