If anybody knows about how to score goals it is the one and only Ian Wright. Wrighty scored 185 goals for the Gunners, a club record only surpassed by King Henry. With 305 goals in his club career, the man was a goal scoring legend, and has turned his attention to the goal scoring problems of his former club, Arsenal.
Unlike some Arsenal fans, Wright is confident that Giroud and Podolski will soon adapt to the rigours of the Premier league and will start to score goals. He does share the fear of many Gooners that Arsenal will get left behind in the title race unless they start taking the chances and half chances as soon as possible.
Wright’s solution to the problem is an “audacious” bid for the Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe. Wright told The Sun that,
“Defoe would be the perfect replacement for Robin van Persie, the penalty box predator to finish off all those half chances which are currently going begging.”
Wright believes that Defoe would welcome the move from Tottenham, where he does not seem to get the recognition he deserves. Despite scoring 119 goals for Spurs, he has often been left on the bench.
Wright’s other suggestion is for the capture of Yohan Cabaye from Newcastle. The midfielder has been linked with Arsenal, and Wright thinks he would fit in to Wenger’s team perfectly.
