The 21-year old midfielder Henri Lansbury has been with the Gunners since 1999 but has never managed to break through in to the first team. After a number of successful loan spells, Lansbury held talks with Arsene Wenger to get a clear idea of whether he had a future at Arsenal. After featuring a little in pre-season it was obviously decided, whether mutually or not, that he should move on.
Arsenal have now agreed terms with Championship side Nottingham Forest in a deal worth around £1 million. Forest are due to announce Lansbury as their new signing tomorrow, according to the Daily Telegraph. Forest will be hoping that Lansbury can make it three promotions in a row. Last year he made 22 appearances for West Ham, including the successful play-offs.
The previous season Lansbury played 23 league games for Norwich City, scoring four goals and getting five assists to help them gain automatic promotion. He is a good example of Arsenal’s successful youth policy and we wish him well for the future.
Arsenal fans might remember him fondly, as he scored his only goal for Arsenal against Tottenham in the Carling cup in 2010. It was a game that Arsenal won 4-1 and Lansbury played the whole game which he described as being “like a dream.”
Lansbury has made 14 appearances for the England U21's and has scored 5 goals. Surely he would be worth a lot more than £1 million in a few more years?
