Mikel Arteta was one of Arsenal’s outstanding performers last season in his first year at the club. The Spaniard is continuing his good form this season and his compatriot Santi Cazorla has slotted in to the Gunners’s side like a Premier league veteran. The performances of the two midfielders has gone largely unnoticed in Arteta’s opinion as all the media wants to talk about is Robin van Persie.
“All the talk about Robin all the time…you can get frustrated.” Mikel said. “You cannot do in two games what it has taken eight years to create…It’s impossible.”
Arteta does not think it is fair to put so much pressure on the two new strikers Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud. Arteta reminds us that van Persie did not instantly become a scoring machine, but admits that his loss was a big one for Arsenal. He believes that Giroud and Podolski have already started to show their quality and, with Cazorla, the Gunners have signed three excellent players.
“Personally I’m happy because they look good. We need to find the right balance. You might be more creative, but you may become more open and concede more goals.”
Arteta pointed out that with a little bit of luck, Giroud could have scored the winner against Sunderland and Podolski against Stoke. His message is clear. Don’t Panic!
