Arteta and Wenger want to repay Arsenal fans at Schalke

Posted on November 05, 2012 by Bob

Arsene Wenger has praised the Arsenal fans for their unflinching support recently, but knows that he owes them some better results. We nger and his vice-captain Mikel Arteta aim to start repaying the Gooners tomorrow against Schalke.

Arteta is demanding an improvement from the Arsenal team, knowing that the Champions league game in Germany will not be easy, but Arsenal have the ability to win. Anything less that 100 percent effort will not be acceptable, as Arsenal try to get the season back on track.

“We’ve got another massive game again. We lost against (Schalke) at home, which was a big disappointment, and it’s going to be a really tough game in Germany.

“We have to bounce back. I think we have to show how much we want to win it, and go there and show big attitude.

“I have no doubt about the attitude we have in the dressing room, and the desire. I think the attitude was good (against Man United). We all kept trying, even with 10 men.”

I think that Arteta is going a bit easy on some of the Arsenal players, and hope that behind closed doors there are some harsh words being given out. You cannot fault Arteta’s commitment, but there have been too many players recently not doing enough.

Arsenal have a great chance to boost confidence and qualify top of the group if they can beat Schalke tomorrow. The Germans lost at the weekend to a Hoffenheim team who had not won in four games, but they will be giving everything to beat Arsenal.

If it is true that Kieran Gibbs could play tomorrow, that would give us a massive boost and will cheer the fans up before a ball is kicked. Happy Santos is a liability and proved on Saturday that his attitude is all wrong.

Podolski has not been his usual self recently, and it could well be because he is worried about Santos behind him. Gibbs will give the team more confidence and solidity, allowing us to focus more on going forwards.

Arteta: Forget Van Persie and Don’t Panic!

Posted on August 28, 2012 by Bob

Mikel Arteta was one of Arsenal’s outstanding performers last season in his first year at the club. The Spaniard is continuing his good form this season and his compatriot Santi Cazorla has slotted in to the Gunners’s side like a Premier league veteran. The performances of the two midfielders has gone largely unnoticed in Arteta’s opinion as all the media wants to talk about is Robin van Persie.

“All the talk about Robin all the time…you can get frustrated.” Mikel said. “You cannot do in two games what it has taken eight years to create…It’s impossible.”

Arteta does not think it is fair to put so much pressure on the two new strikers Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud. Arteta reminds us that van Persie did not instantly become a scoring machine, but admits that his loss was a big one for Arsenal. He believes that Giroud and Podolski have already started to show their quality and, with Cazorla, the Gunners have signed three excellent players.

“Personally I’m happy because they look good. We need to find the right balance. You might be more creative, but you may become more open and concede more goals.”

Arteta pointed out that with a little bit of luck, Giroud could have scored the winner against Sunderland and Podolski against Stoke. His message is clear. Don’t Panic!

Arteta – There is something missing but Arsenal WILL get better

Mikel Arteta was named as Arsenal’s Man Of The Match in yesterdays boring 0-0 draw against Stoke City, but he believes that there is a little something missing from the team, especially in attack.

But he suggests it is simply a matter of the new players settling in and getting to know each other, and the goals will come. ‘It is not good enough.” he said. “We wanted the three points, but it is a hard place to come and try to get the points,’

‘We had some really good chances but at the moment we are not taking them, the same thing happened last week.

‘We are making them and conceding few chances to the opposition but we lost two points again today.’

‘You know if you concede fouls and throw-ins they can put you in trouble because they get the ball in the box and are really organised at set pieces,’

‘We didn’t concede many chances and were well organised. We need three, four, five games together and then we will see how good they are. They have the quality.’

‘Offensively we still have some work to do because we missed a bit of accuracy in the final third in our movement and in our passing,’ Wenger said.

‘We are used to finding each other in the final third and there’s something missing but I still think we should have won the game 1-0.

‘[It is] an understanding because you have Cazorla and Podolski who one month ago, they didn’t know each other, so that will come.

‘We have some work to do on the training ground but I believe we have the potential but you can see as well that something is missing.

‘They’re not spontaneous enough in some situations. I’m very positive about my team. People will say: ‘You did not score in two games’ and I cannot deny that.

‘We played against two teams who as a unit defend very well, Sunderland and Stoke, and overall I believe we can be a good surprise in this Championship.’

There were also some positives defensively. Two clean sheets plus the fact that Arsenal had 70% possession in both games surely point to the fact that the team’s obvious superiority will be turned into goals at some point. Someone is going to get hammered – and I sincerely hope it will be Liverpool!

Arsenal injury update-Diaby, Arteta and Fabianski fit

Posted on July 21, 2012 by admin

Abou Diaby, Lukasz Fabianski and Mikel Arteta will be part of the Arsenal squad for the tour of Asia. This is great news for Arsenal who desperately need to start this season well. Sagna, Wilshere, Rosicky and Frimpong are all on the mend but will not be ready for the start of the season.

On Diaby’s condition, Wenger says “He is fit, raring to go and will be on the tour. That is fantastic news for him and us.”

Arsenal need Diaby to repeat his season of 2009-2010 when he played in 40 games, scored seven goals and provided six assists. Diaby, with his technical ability and dribbling skills can provide Arsenal the attacking flair they will be missing due to Wilshere’s absence. He could be a fantastic player for the Gunners as long as he does not pick up yet another injury(PLEASE).

Bacary Sagna is due back at the end of August so should not miss too many games, but Wilshere, Rosicky and Frimpong could all be out until October. Wenger said that there have been no more complications with Wilshere’s ankle problem but the length of his lay-off makes it hard to predict hi return.

“”I don’t want to put any pressure on him.”

Hopefully Fabianski and Vito Mannone can push for the number one shirt and keep Szczesney on his toes. Wenger has also told ArsenalPlayer that he will have to sell some players in order to recruit.

“Before we get players in, we have to get players out. That has not happened yet, the market is very quiet…we have to respect the squad number.”

Is this why Arsenal have not made an offer for Yann M’Vila? If so, we need to sell Arshavin, Chamakh or Bendtner qyickly. All three would be better, of course.

MIKEL ARTETA admits he is finally getting to grips with life at Arsenal.

The Spaniard signed for the Gunners on deadline day from Everton this summer and was thrown into the thick of the action.
His arrival along with Andre Santos and Per Mertesacker saw a revival in the North London side's form.
But midfielder Arteta, 29, revealed: "I have not had a lot of time to settle.
"As soon as I came here there was a pressure and we needed to get results.
"It has not been an easy time but we have got those results in the last two months."
Arsenal eased past West Brom on Saturday with Arteta scoring the third in a 3-0 win.
But it was the clean sheet that gave Arteta just as much satisfaction.
He added: "We have been trying to get everything tight and be more solid.
"I like to get forward, have freedom and I like to score goals.
"I want to participate more on the attacking side so I did that and I'm pleased.
"But now we are on a run, we are keeping it together and getting clean sheets. That's important. I am pleased that we won.
"We have a break now and it leaves you with a really bad sensation if you don't win before one of those.
"We have 15 days to work with the players and we need to come back very strong.
"We have to win every game because we are catching up and it is not one or two clubs chasing the title like the old days.
"We know we have the talent and the desire in our team to get better."
