Arsenal DO have options if Giroud gets injured (not Chamakh!)

What are our attacking options? by AH

Well after yesterday’s disappointment in the lack of transfer movement, we now know our final squad. The first XI looks reasonably strong however we lack in squad depth which could be a problem. I mentioned in my earlier squad analysis article that we had reasonably good reinforcements in most positions, however we lacked in two positions in particular – Defensive Midfield and Striker.

The defensive midfield issue is a problem, but I want to focus to our striking problems in this article. We currently have two central strikers in Giroud and Chamakh, although Podolski can also play in the middle. None of us really want to see Chamakh play but if Giroud doesn’t find form or he becomes injured then suddenly there’s a problem. Chamakh is your only main central striker.

Yesterday Arsenal fans were calling for Wenger to sign another striker, however it didn’t happen and now some people think we are in big trouble should Giroud become injured. But there are other options;

We currently have this as our attacking force;

Right Wingers; Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain

Strikers; Giroud and Chamakh

Left Wingers; Podolski, Gervinho and Arshavin

Now lucky many of those players are versatile and so if Giroud did become injured many players can fill in for him. Obviously Chamakh could just fill in for Giroud and we could continue with the same team, but we also have Podolski and Walcott you can play in the middle. For me Arshavin wouldn’t get into the first team in front of the other players unless more were injured.
So here are our best options;
Podolski—Walcott—Chamberlain
Gervinho—Podolski—Walcott
Chamberlain—Podolski—Walcott
Gervinho—Podolski—Chamberlain

Or a very pacey front three of Gervinho—Walcott—Chamberlain

There are striking options and maybe if we offered Walcott that striking role he always wanted he may lower his wage demands and commit to a new contract.

It’s a difficult decision to make and when you look at the squad we have a lot more strikers then we first thought. I would go for Chamberlain—Podolski—Walcott. What would you choose?
