Arsenal DO have options if Giroud gets injured (not Chamakh!)

Posted on September 01, 2012 by admin

What are our attacking options? by AH

Well after yesterday’s disappointment in the lack of transfer movement, we now know our final squad. The first XI looks reasonably strong however we lack in squad depth which could be a problem. I mentioned in my earlier squad analysis article that we had reasonably good reinforcements in most positions, however we lacked in two positions in particular – Defensive Midfield and Striker.

The defensive midfield issue is a problem, but I want to focus to our striking problems in this article. We currently have two central strikers in Giroud and Chamakh, although Podolski can also play in the middle. None of us really want to see Chamakh play but if Giroud doesn’t find form or he becomes injured then suddenly there’s a problem. Chamakh is your only main central striker.

Yesterday Arsenal fans were calling for Wenger to sign another striker, however it didn’t happen and now some people think we are in big trouble should Giroud become injured. But there are other options;

We currently have this as our attacking force;

Right Wingers; Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain

Strikers; Giroud and Chamakh

Left Wingers; Podolski, Gervinho and Arshavin

Now lucky many of those players are versatile and so if Giroud did become injured many players can fill in for him. Obviously Chamakh could just fill in for Giroud and we could continue with the same team, but we also have Podolski and Walcott you can play in the middle. For me Arshavin wouldn’t get into the first team in front of the other players unless more were injured.
So here are our best options;
Podolski—Walcott—Chamberlain
Gervinho—Podolski—Walcott
Chamberlain—Podolski—Walcott
Gervinho—Podolski—Chamberlain

Or a very pacey front three of Gervinho—Walcott—Chamberlain

There are striking options and maybe if we offered Walcott that striking role he always wanted he may lower his wage demands and commit to a new contract.

It’s a difficult decision to make and when you look at the squad we have a lot more strikers then we first thought. I would go for Chamberlain—Podolski—Walcott. What would you choose?

Arsenal Rumours Aug 28th – Bendtner, Chamakh, Isco, Mbiwa, Afellay and Cabaye

Posted on August 28, 2012 by admin

There are loads of Arsenal transfer rumours popping up as we enter the last few days of the transfer window, and today is no different. Come on Arsene, we’re all waiting for that “special player” you’ve promised us last week!

Well first of all let’s get one outgoing player out of the way, as the Mail reports that Nicklas Bendtner is now being looked at by Juventus as the Old Lady seems to have failed in their bid to get Llorente. The bad news is that the price being quoted (or offered) is only £5million. As much as we don’t want the Greatest Striker In The World back at Arsenal, I really think he should be worth more than that after his performances at the Euros this summer……

Another Arsenal striker hopefully to be leaving is Marouane Chamakh who is reported to be wanted by Malaga in La Liga. This could be very helpful as Arsenal have been linked with a move for the unwanted Spanish U21 international Isco (Full name: Francisco Román Alarcón Suárez). For some unknown reason the Malaga boss Manuel Pellegrini thinks that Isco is surplus to requirements this season and has given him permission to talk to other clubs. Perhaps Wenger could propose a straight swap?

It seems that Yohan Cabaye is the favour of the week at Arsenal according to the English press, but Newcastle have admitted they are loathe to sell any of their stars at this late stage, so I am unconvinced this one will get off the ground, but the out-of-favour Barcelona midfielder Ibrahim Afellay is a possibility after being told he can go out on loan for a season to try and regain his form. Afellay missed most of last season with a cruciate injury but if he can regain his previous form for PSV and Holland he could be a very useful addition to the Arsenal midfield.

Another licely Arsenal rumour is the possibility of nabbing the Montpellier defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, who is very versatile and can play anywhere in the back line. He would certainly be useful but I doubt if Wenger will bring in a defender, although its obvious to everyone in the world (except him!) that Arsenal need one more classy squad player in the defence to cover for all these bloody injuries….

Can you see any of these players ending up at Arsenal before the weekend????

Arsenal News and Rumours – Chamakh, Kalou, Jovetic and…….

Posted on July 09, 2012 by admin

Recent News and Rumours – by JG

Well, Arsenal fans can release a collective sigh of relief, Salomon Kalou has signed a four-year contract with Lille in Ligue 1. All joking aside, this is a perfect example of how the media can manipulate some fans so easily. There were hordes of people commenting, saying things like “ohhhh noooo not Kalou! He is not good at all!” Which is understandable, because he is very average; but the truth of the matter is, Arsenal were not even attempting to sign him at all.

Reports have emerged that Arsenal are closer to finding a buyer for Marouane Chamakh. The Sun says Fiorentina are ready to lay down £4million for Arsenal striker Chamakh. Apparently a source who knows Chamakh “closely” (probably his agent, or his shisha dealer) has said, “The Italian option is very attractive.”

This coincides with the possibility of a Stevan Jovetic transfer. Offer Chamakh and £14 million? Not an unreasonable business proposition in my opinion, and Arsenal are more that capable of doing it; I mean come on, £12 million for Olivier Giroud? That was a fantastic piece of bargaining to sign Giroud for that amount. ManShitty would have probably spent £18 million (if they didn’t have Dzeko already).

The Telegraph says Juventus hope to beat Manchester City in the race to sign Van Persie. According to the rumours Juventus are willing to break their own wage structure by paying Van Persie close to the £200,000 per week that would be on offer at City, but they will be more reluctant to pay a transfer fee above £15 million. I don’t really feel like elaborating on this because I’m sick and tired of discussing RVP’s family dishonoring nonsense, but I will say this…Would he really move to Manchester City; and risk the reaction he would get from Arsenal fans when he plays in a sky blue jersey at the Emirates?

Anyway, that’s all for now, let us know what you think.

Is Chamakh on his way back to France this summer?

Ligue 1 outfit are set to offer ’s an escape route back to France after the striker’s mixed first season in English football, according to talkSPORT.

Reports in France have revealed that the 27-year-old Moroccan is on top of the Ligue 1 clubs wish list this summer, and are already drawing up a transfer plan for the forward when the window opens.

Chamakh joined the Gunners from Bordeaux last summer on a free, but after an impressive start for the Gunners, the Moroccan international has struggled to cement a regular place in Arsene Wenger’ side, especially with regaining fitness.

With Chamakh currently warming the bench at Arsenal, it now seems that Marseille, who currently sit second place in Ligue 1, could be a realistic destination for the striker, especially with the promise of regular first-team football in mind.

Chamakh has managed to bag 11 goals in 40 appearances (26 starts, 14 from the bench) so far for the North London club. However, since the turn of the year, Arsenal’s number 29 has only managed to appear once in the Premier League, and more significantly, has been unable to net a top-flight goal since November.

In my opinion, I don’t think it has been an unusual first season for the striker, purely for the fact that I personally believe he was brought to the club as a cover option for Robin van Persie, nothing more. He was picked by Wenger to spearhead the attack whilst Robin was sidelined through injury, but since the Dutchman’s return, Chamakh has rarely been seen, which reinforces my claim further. Both strikers are fit, yet only RVP starts in Wenger’s side.

Chamakh did extremely well up-front before the turn of the year, and bagged some vital goals for Arsenal which was great to see, but I truly believe reality has set in for the Moroccan, hence why these days he’s warming the Arsenal bench.

Reports suggest that the French club could offer around £8 million for Chamakh’s services this summer. I have nothing against the lad, but if these reports are accurate, then I believe Wenger should seriously consider selling the Moroccan, especially for that price.
