Statistics from Liverpool 0 – Arsenal 2
Arsenal won 2-0 against a Liverpool side that certainly didn’t live up to expectations as Brendan Rodgers’ rebellion fell at the feet of the mighty Arsenal.
Arsenal struggled in the opening 20 minutes, with Liverpool gaining the majority of possession; however we shut them out and then turned it around in scored the first goal in the 30th minute. Podolski started the move by passing to Cazorla, before running past Glen Johnson, to get back on the end of Cazorla’s pass before smashing the ball past Pepe Reina into the back of the net. Magnificent!
Then on we started to press better and gain more attacking possession however, we couldn’t make the most of our chances, falling at the final hurdle several times. However it’s nothing to worry about as we went into half-time with a 1-0 lead.
We came out for the second half, dominating possession as we tried to find the second goal. There were a few close moments for Liverpool, coming close several times, however the defensive partnership of Vermaelen and Mertesacker was solid once again as it shut out 28 Liverpool crosses in total.
Cazorla then scored after a lovely bit of link up play and a powerful shot took it under Pepe Reina with a little help from the Spaniard’s elbow. The game was set and we were now in the driving seat to get all 3 points.
So let’s look at some of the Arsenal player’s individual statistics;
-Mikel Arteta completed 87 out of an attempted 92 passes.
-Santi Cazorla completed 14 out of an attempted 19 attacking third passes.
-Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla both created 3 chances, leading to a goal each.
-Abou Diaby completed 3/4 take-ons.
-Thomas Vermaelen and Per Mertesacker had a 100% tackle success.
-Lukas Podolski, Kieran Gibbs and Abou Diaby made 3 interceptions.
Well, what can you say it’s all very impressive. Our midfield trio were fantastic, completing the majority of passes the strung together. The defence was solid, Mertesacker and Vermaelen didn’t let a single thing past them, while Jenkinson and Gibbs contributed well to both Attacking and Defending. Diaby for me was man of the match.
A good all round performance from Arsenal on Sunday and let’s hope we can have many more like it.
