Arsenal close to off-loading their biggest flop of last season?

Celta Vigo eyes Park Chu-Young on loan by AM

According to today’s Spanish media, Celta Vigo are eyeing a loan deal for the Arsenal forward Park Chu-Young. The South Korean striker has been out in the cold ever since his mysterious arrival last year. Park is perhaps Arsene Wenger’s most questionable transfer investment. The forward, who was signed from Monaco last season, has made only one league appearance (total of six appearances in all competition). This season, it looks highly unlikely that Arsene Wenger will hold on to the Korean. To be fair to Park he wasn’t even given enough opportunity to prove himself as Wenger continued to prefer Chamakh when van Persie was unavailable last season (not very often!).

There is no doubt that Arsenal have been looking for buyer for Park and now it seem that Celta Vigo are lining up a one year loan deal for the Korean. The Spanish side have been in the market for a striker and given their lack of funds, it will be a good move for them.

It is believed that Wenger was not impressed with Park’s performances in the Olympics, where the Korean was dropped from the first team during the semi-final match against Brazil. Although Park won a bronze medal at the London games, he was far from impressive. Park was earlier linked with a move to far east, with UAE clubs Al Ain FC and Al Hilal interested in securing his service.

Championship team Blackburn Rovers were also linked with him earlier, but now it seem they have turned their attention elsewhere. Celta Vigo might be a good option for Park, but Arsenal may be more interested in a permanent deal rather than loan. A loan deal with an option to make it permanent in the end looks to be on cards. It will certainly suit all parties involved nicely…

Arsenal are close to £15.7m M’Vila transfer

Posted on August 21, 2012 by Bob

Arsene Wenger might be able to announce two new Arsenal players this week. The general manager of Yann M’Vila’s current club Rennes, Pierre Dreossi, has dropped a massive hint that he expects M’Vila to become a Gunner by the end of the week.

“Arsenal? Maybe, you’ll have to call Arsene. But when Song leaves, we must say that Arsenal will reinforce that post.”

In his interview with French radio station RMC, Dreossi claimed that three clubs were vying for the services of the French international. Arsenal, Tottenham and Zenit St. Petersburg are the clubs, according to Goal, com. There have been reports that M’Vila does not want to go to a club who are not in the Champion’s league and he has already stated his desire to play in the Premier league.

Dreossi seems to think that the deal will soon be done but is insisting that Rennes are still sticking to their valuation of around 20 million euros. We will see about that when Wenger puts his negotiating head on.

“I think it will be done by the end of this week or the beginning of next.”

What a great boost for Arsenal fans and the team if Wenger can announce M’Vila soon and erase the bad taste that the sales of Robin van Persie and Alex Song have left in the mouth of Gooners everywhere.

Arsenal close to securing loan deal for Real Madrid's Nuri Sahin as a replacement for Barcelona-bound Alex Song

Sahin also had the option of Liverpool but he has now verbally agreed to join Arsène Wenger’s squad on loan for the rest of the season. The expectation is that Sahin will arrive in time to play against Stoke City next Sunday, with a deal potentially announced as early as today.

A one-year loan will cost Arsenal £2million and, while Sahin is renowned for his passing rather than his tackling, he is still expected to replace Song at the base of Arsenal’s central midfield.

Sahin, a Turkey international, was vital for Borussia Dortmund as they won the Bundesliga in 2010-11 but has since struggled for opportunities in a Madrid midfield that includes Xabi Alonso, Sami Khedira and Mesut Özil.

Although Wenger believes that he now has sufficient cover to compensate for the departures of Song and Robin van Persie, the two outfield players who started most games last season, he remains under considerable pressure to spend. He is currently £2million in credit in his summer transfer business.

Santi Cazorla, who shone against Sunderland on Saturday, joined fans in stressing the importance of replacements. “It’s clear that he [Van Persie] is a great player, a spectacular player, and obviously we would all have preferred it if he had stayed,” said Cazorla.

“Song has gone as well and there are still 10 days left in the market. Obviously it’s important to replace players like that because they were so important for the team.”

Wenger appeared almost resigned to Arsenal’s difficulty in keeping star players amid interest from clubs with superior resources.

“We make the players here,” said Wenger. “All that have left were made here or made a name here or came here very young. Fàbregas, Clichy, Adebayor, Henry, Nasri, all of them.

"Song came at 17. I believe part of our club is to influence people’s lives in a positive way. You would prefer to influence it in a positive way for yourself but it does not always happen.

"That is what we face today. I don’t think it is linked at all with winning something or not.”

The next big question surrounds Theo Walcott, who is out of contract next year and expects to have further talks with Arsenal later this week.
