Why Arsenal are losing out on players by TS

So this morning it would seem that the Sahin saga has taken yet another turn in what seems to be the player opting for Liverpool. I find this shocking as he so desired to want to come to Arsenal and play for us a day ago, apparently. Liverpool are paying him more but can’t offer Champions league football. It’s surprising how many players we lose out on because of money. Let’s face it, this isn’t the boy scouts here. Players have a limited window in which to shine and most, if not all, want top dollar for their skills.

I suppose the most disappointing thing is that in a couple of weeks, it’ll come out that we lost Sahin because of 5k or 10k per week extra that Liverpool were prepared to pay. The club has to recognize that to make money, we have spend money. I agree that not all spending should be over the top but at the very least, it should be competitive. Competitive enough to beat out the likes of Liverpool who have nothing but money to offer.

The problem with us is that we attract the wrong kind of footballer too regularly. People with fresh talent but not the ability to burn up our rivals with intense jealously. We have had players like that, no doubt, but its been a long time since we had 4 or 5 of them on the same pitch.

Navas is yet another name associated with us this transfer window. Arsenal are undoubtedly a big club and yet when it comes to the transfer season we have as much pulling power over players as a meteor has over Jupiter. Navas has a £35k buy-out clause but Sevilla are willing to accept a bid of around half that amount. Ok, so not bad for the guys talent but then we hear about his 115k per week wage and things start to stutter. How do we afford this? Add that to his transfer fee, release clause, bonuses etc and our interest cools. Not only ours but the player’s too. He hears we backing off his initial wage and he thinks that his room to grow financially drastically weakens especially when clubs out there are prepared to offer two or three times his pay just to secure his services.

When will Arsenal learn that to win, that to make money, something has to change.

Liverpool expect Sahin to join on Friday, Arsenal fans gutted

Arsenal target Sahin has not chosen Liverpool

The story about the destination of Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin seems to change twice a day at the minute. Today all the rumours are suggesting that there has been a problem between Arsenal and Madrid about the details of the loan agreement, whether it is the money involved or the possibility of a permanent deal at the end of the year or the idea that Jose Mourinho does not want Sahin to come to Arsenal.

Well any or all of those might be true but nobody knows. Most of these rumours seem to be coming from the Daily Mail. Yesterday they reported that the deal was done and Sahin was a Gunner. Today they are saying that the deal has hit the rocks and he will now go to Liverpool. The truth is, quite simply, that nothing has been finalized so they are pretty much guessing.

Marca, the Spanish newspaper, have only one new story about Sahin today and that is saying that Mourinho has got no preference about which English club the Turkish international plays for. He definitely wants Sahin to come to the Premier league because of the high standard of football. He also believes that the English game is perfectly suited to Sahin.

Mourinho categorically denies that he has tried to influence Sahin’s decision in any way. Sahin seems to be fairly independent and strong minded himself. He has already rejected moves to three clubs that he does not want to play for.

In my opinion, the reason that the deal has stalled is nothing to do with the destination of Sahin. Mourinho and Real Madrid will not sanction the move until they are sure that Luka Modric will move from Tottenham to the Bernabeu. I do not think that Sahin will be given final confirmation to go until Madrid and Modric have put pen to paper, but that is just my opinion. I still think that he will be playing for Arsenal this season. Fingers crossed.

Sahin DEFINITELY signed for Arsenal – Here is the proof!

I am sure all Arsenal fans are sick to death of these rumours about Real Madrid’s Nuri Sahin, but I can now give you proof that he has signed for the Gunners in a one year loan deal.

It was reported this morning that Liverpool were back in the driving seat after Sahin’s agent spent the weekend up in Liverpool, but now the Independent has announced that the Turkish international has passed a medical at London Colney and could play in this weekends game against Stoke City.

But for those of you who will say that this STILL isnt proof enough that he has chosen Arsenal, then what about this pic here? This photo has appeared in the NationalTurk a couple of hours ago……

Agreed it could be a VERY good photoshop job, but WHY would the National Turk want to report lies about one of their own international players?

BUT it is still a fact that the respected English journal The Independent HAS reported that Sahin has passed a medical and signed for Arsenal. And they quote Sky in Germany as being their source.

Confusion reigns over Sahin coming to Arsenal

What the hell is going on with Sahin?? by TS

Despite sources( News week, Daily mail and Goal) stating that Nuri Sahin has signed a loan deal with Arsenal the Spanish press are reporting that the player is still training with Madrid ahead of their Supercopa match against Barcelona and took part in training this morning.

It’s all very confusing as the same paper that is reporting that the deal is done and dusted and the player is on his way to the Emirates is also saying that Sahin is still a Madrid player. It seems that both Madrid and Arsenal are delaying the transfer a little bit longer despite having stated that both parties have agreed terms with possibly the option to buy Sahin at the end of the loan stopping Arsenal from making an official statement.

What it does mean is that it’s unlikely that anything will be announced today by Arsenal as they will need to get the player from Spain, photographed and a medical needs to be done etc. Then again, who the hell knows? The latest news speculates that Sahin will be in London by Friday.

I know I’m bringing you conflicting reports, but I’m just reporting on the stories as they appear in the media. You know how this goes by now. Nothing is certain until the player is on the field playing for us. The deal is by no means off though, Arsenal are expected to make the statement this week. Apologies, TS

Arsenal transfer update: Sahin and M’Vila still in transit……

The news last night was that three clubs were interested in Yann M’Vila. Those 3 clubs are Tottenham, Arsenal and Spartak Moscow. This came directly from the Rennes Chairman’s mouth on RMC Sport in France. He confirmed last weekend that M’Vila had played his last game for Rennes so he must be pushing for a move. In his interview, he essentially said that Wenger was in the driving seat for this transfer and acknowledged that Wenger would be after Rennes star man by hinting at the Song transfer saga.

Pierre Dreossi told RMC: “Arsenal? Maybe. You need to ask Arsene Wenger. I think Arsenal will look for a player in this position. He (M’Vila) could go there or to a club which sells Arsenal a player.”

“It is complicated. Yann doesn’t want to go to a team where he is not completely wanted. There is a real chance for him to stay (in Rennes) this season.”

Onto M’Vila himself, apparently, he is still waiting for Arsenal to firm up interest before making his decision. He is solely after Champions League football otherwise he feels that no move from Rennes would be beneficial to his career. I still feel like that this transfer will go down to the deadline day and Rennes will have to bend to the pressure.

The other news that just emerged today is that the Sahin deal has apparently stalled because Wenger has finally got his wish of a buyback clause but is unhappy with the steep fee of £14 million. Considering Madrid only paid £8 million for him, Wenger is trying to negotiate it down to £10-12 million. Everything is done on Sahin’s side of things according to the likes of Balague, Ornstein and other reliable journalists. It’s just the small print with regards on the buyback and you can expect to see this completed by the Stoke game.

Sky Sports last night reported that Real and Arsenal have now agreed terms for the deal to go ahead, and now it is simply up to the player himself to make the final decision. Watch this space…..

Things are really starting to pick up on Arsenal’s side at the moment and we still don’t know who this mysterious defender is that we’re supposedly after.

Arsenal sign Nuri Sahin at last

AW has secured the signature of Nuri Sahin after stalling over a £14m buy out clause should we decide to make his loan deal permanent next summer. Sportsmail revealed on Tuesday how the deal for the Madrid midfielder had hit a snag as Madrid wanted a fixed price of £14m attached to the deal if Arsenal decide to take up the option of signing the Turkey midfielder once his loan ends.

The deal stalled momentarily but now it seems that both clubs have agreed to terms and Sahin officially becomes a gunner this season!We were apparently so confident of securing Sahin’s services that they planned a photo shoot on Monday ahead of his official unveiling. The club called a halt to the shoot after the last minute problem regarding his buy out clause. Now that everything has been confirmed, all plans should go ahead as normal.

So what does this mean for the club? Only good things! Song has now been replaced with a class player and the effects of having Sahin in our team should be seen immediately. Sahin is different to Song, make no mistake about that. He is an orchestrator, stitching the patterns of play from the heart of the midfield. He has more presence than Song on the field and is happier to show for the ball and take responsibility for starting attacks. His passing, over long and short distances, is exceptional. He is reluctant to give away possession and knows when to alleviate it in pursuit of goals.

Mark this day Gunners, its the birth of an Arsenal legend.

Spanish media report Sahin is an Arsenal player

Turkish international Nuri Sahin’s agent, Reza Fazeli, was at the offices of Real Madrid’s stadium the Santiago Bernabeo yesterday and todat putting thr finidhing touches to the loan deal that will bring Sahin to the Emirates for the next year at least.

One of the major problems holding up the deal was the question of whether or not there would be a clause in the deal that allowed Arsenal to buy Sahin at the end of the time period, should they want to, as reported by Spanish newspaper AS.

The report states that Arsenal will pay a fee of 2.8 million euros to Madrid, and I doubt whether Arsene Wenger would sanction that if it was purely a loan deal. The paper expects both clubs to make an announcement any time soon. Sahin has chosen Arsenal over Liverpool against the wishes of his manager Jose Mourinho. Mourinho had already told the midfielder that he was free to go where he wanted in order to regain the form that made Madrid buy him from Borussia Dortmund last summer.

Madrid are also about to announce the capture of Luka Modric from Spurs. The Croatian stayed away from training again and is just waiting for some t’ to be crossed.

Arsenal about to announce Sahin transfer

It’s almost finally done now… Sahin is apparently on his way to London Colney for a medical. The ever reliable AFCAMDEN who brought you the Santi Cazorla deal confirmed it earlier on in the morning:

Just been informed that a deal has now been finalised & Nuri Sahin is now expected to report to the Arsenal training ground after 4pm.#AFC

If this isn’t enough, @DarrenArsenal1 (another extremely reliable tweeter) confirmed Sahin was doing his photoshoot:

This is great news and with this looking to be only one of the flurry of signings Wenger might commit to before the end of this window, things are starting to look good again.

Sahin is a class player who was integral to Dortmund’s title challenge during the 2010/2011 season. He likes to play a similar role to Alonso; deep lying playmaker essentially. However, he does have a defensive edge and knows how to tackle. His positioning is excellent and his passing range is sublime. David Ornstein of the BBC confirmed that Arsenal were successful in their attempts to get a buyback clause installed (fee undisclosed).

I’m not sure that he’ll be our cover for Song. Doesn’t seem defensive enough personally. However, if he is, I fully trust Wenger’s judgement on this. We don’t play any conventional defensive midfielders as I’ve highlighted in previous articles. But neither do some of the top clubs in Europe.

We can expect Sahin to be announced tomorrow and don’t be surprised if we make another signing before the Stoke game. There has been a lot of talk that we are still very active in the market and I can’t wait to see whom Wenger unveils!

Nuri Sahin to arrive at Arsenal imminently

In the mix of the news floating around about who AW will bring in next it has now been reported that Arsenal have reached an agreement with Madrid over Sahin and that the deal is to be completed by tomorrow!

Our manager has reacted with lightening speed to alleviate the loss of Alex Song with only 10 days remaining in the transfer window. Wide spread reports suggest that Arsenal have agreed to a deal with Madrid for Sahin. The midfielder had been strongly linked with Liverpool, but AW has seemingly won him over with the promise of Champions League football and a £2m loan fee.

Arsenal looked to have lost the race for the Turkish International’s signature with Liverpool pushing hard all the way but without the bite to match their bark, the Turkish international decided that Arsenal would offer him more. The deal is set to include a clause which would allow AW to keep Sahin on a permanent deal if he so wishes. The boy has talent so I can see that happening with his style of play fitting perfectly with the Arsenal way.

Liverpool offered a better financial deal but with without the prospect of Champions league football, their offer fell on deaf ears with the player opting for the Emirates instead. So what does this mean for the team? Well, Sahin isn’t a direct replacement for Song, but he does offer a more creative solution to our mid field. Arteta and Diaby started against Sunderland and Sahin is expected to compete for the two spots along with Ramsey.

Arsenal close to securing loan deal for Real Madrid's Nuri Sahin as a replacement for Barcelona-bound Alex Song

Sahin also had the option of Liverpool but he has now verbally agreed to join Arsène Wenger’s squad on loan for the rest of the season. The expectation is that Sahin will arrive in time to play against Stoke City next Sunday, with a deal potentially announced as early as today.

A one-year loan will cost Arsenal £2million and, while Sahin is renowned for his passing rather than his tackling, he is still expected to replace Song at the base of Arsenal’s central midfield.

Sahin, a Turkey international, was vital for Borussia Dortmund as they won the Bundesliga in 2010-11 but has since struggled for opportunities in a Madrid midfield that includes Xabi Alonso, Sami Khedira and Mesut Özil.

Although Wenger believes that he now has sufficient cover to compensate for the departures of Song and Robin van Persie, the two outfield players who started most games last season, he remains under considerable pressure to spend. He is currently £2million in credit in his summer transfer business.

Santi Cazorla, who shone against Sunderland on Saturday, joined fans in stressing the importance of replacements. “It’s clear that he [Van Persie] is a great player, a spectacular player, and obviously we would all have preferred it if he had stayed,” said Cazorla.

“Song has gone as well and there are still 10 days left in the market. Obviously it’s important to replace players like that because they were so important for the team.”

Wenger appeared almost resigned to Arsenal’s difficulty in keeping star players amid interest from clubs with superior resources.

“We make the players here,” said Wenger. “All that have left were made here or made a name here or came here very young. Fàbregas, Clichy, Adebayor, Henry, Nasri, all of them.

"Song came at 17. I believe part of our club is to influence people’s lives in a positive way. You would prefer to influence it in a positive way for yourself but it does not always happen.

"That is what we face today. I don’t think it is linked at all with winning something or not.”

The next big question surrounds Theo Walcott, who is out of contract next year and expects to have further talks with Arsenal later this week.

Arsenal will sell Song if they get Sahin

Reports are all over the Spanish media that it is just a matter of time before Alex Song becomes a Barcelona player, but there are a few elements to be sorted out before the deal is done. Arsene Wenger surprised everybody today by admitting that both transfers were possible, because our French manager would not normally give away the contents of his rubbish bin for no reason.

“Both could happen…midfield is an area where we have much more freedom to make decisions.”

The general consensus is that Song is keen on the move to Spain, Sahin is keen on the move to Arsenal and Wenger is philosophical about the whole affair. The problem lies at Real Madrid and in the mind of the Special One himself, Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese manager of Madrid could be described as having an issue with both Barcelona and Arsene Wenger, if you were being polite. Another way to describe him would be as an arrogant, paranoid, bullying control freak.

So, Mourinho has got the idea that if Sahin goes to Arsenal on loan, it will allow Barcelona to buy Song. This will strengthen his direct rivals and weaken Madrid’s own chances of trophies this season. He has got a point, but he cannot really control what other clubs do in the transfer market. All he can do is try to persuade Sahin to choose Liverpool over Arsenal, thereby ensuring that Wenger will not allow the sale of Song to go through etc.

Sahin, however, is his own man and has already turned down loan moves to a number of clubs. He had decided to go to Arsenal, apparently, before Mourinho heard about the Barcelona connection and it will be difficult to change his mind. The other problem, reportedly, is that Arsenal want to include a clause in the deal which would allow them to buy Sahin. The board of Madrid have apparently sanctioned this but Jose is not happy.

We will see. I think Song is a great player, but if he does not want to play for Arsenal then we can do without him. Sahin could be fantastic, but it will take a little while for him to get his match fitness back, after only making four league appearances last season.

Liverpool in Spain to hijack Sahin from Arsenal

It is crunch time for Real Madrid’s Turkish international midfielder Nuri Sahin. Jose Mourinho has left the 23-year old in no doubt about his chances of first team football with the Spanish champions this season by playing him as cover at left back during Madrid’s pre-season. He will be left back on the bench if he decides to stay at the Bernabeu this season.

It is virtually assured that Sahin will be moving to England this week, as the Premier league is his preferred destination and he does not want to miss too much of the start of the season. Sahin himself is believed to have chosen Arsenal as his loan team, but Mourinho has tried to get him to consider Liverpool instead.

Mourinho and Brendan Rodgers are friends from their Chelsea days and Mourinho thinks that Sahin will get more regular football at Anfield. Arsenal have the extra draw of the Champion’s league, however, and Mourinho would be happy for Sahin to join Arsene Wenger and his team.

According to the Spanish media, Liverpool’s director is in Spain now, attempting to persuade Sahin to choose his team over the Gunners. We should know what he has decided very soon, and hopefully it will be good news for Gooners.

Nuri Sahin turns down Spurs as Arsenal talks continue

While Arsenal are continuing to haggle with Real Madrid over the terms of Nuri Sahin’s one year loan deal, there are conflicting reports about the possibility that either Tottenham or Liverpool could also be in with a chance of landing the Turkish international.

Both the Guardian and the Mail report that Sahin himself has turned down a move to White Hart Lane as a makeweight in Real Madrid’s negotiations over Luka Modric and that the Emirates is his preferred destination, but the Spanish paper Marca reports that Liverpool are now in the driving seat because of Brendan Rodger’s friendly relations with Jose Mourinho. There is also the fact that Sahin may be more likely to get regular playing time at Anfield than with Arsenal.

There are reports that say that Wenger wants to try and get the price for the loan period reduced (no surprise there!) but also wants the option to buy him next summer if Sahin fits into the team well, while Mourinho is adamant that he still has a future at Madrid.

But the Guardian is convinced that even if Wenger get an agreement with Madrid, it is simply so that he has a backup option if Alexander Song pushes him for a move to Barcelona or elsewhere, but I would have thought that Sahin is simply extra cover in midfield while Wenger waits to see if Jack Wilshere fully recovers from his ongoing problems.

They also reckon that Song has annoyed Wenger by asking him to let the midfielder at least consider offers from other clubs, which has led Wenger to explore other possibilities…

Only God (or Wenger!) knows whether any of these reports are true, but on the premise that there is no smoke without fire I would say that Arsenal are certainly discussing the possibility of Sahin coming to the Emirates!

Mourinho: Sahin can leave Real

The Turkey international has been strongly linked with a summer move from the Santiago Bernabeu, with Arsenal reportedly keen on a season-long loan deal.

Sahin joined Madrid from German champions Borussia Dortmund last summer but failed to make any major breakthrough in the first team, making just four appearances in Los Blancos' triumphant Primera Liga campaign.

Mourinho has now claimed that the 23-year-old can leave the Spanish giants this month.

"The point is, he's a young boy, he wants to play every match," said the Portuguese. "He wants to play to be happy, and in Real Madrid with Xabi Alonso, with [Sami] Khedira, with Lassana [Diarra], [Esteban] Granero, [Mesut] Ozil, the situation is not easy.

"Real Madrid is very difficult. It is not an easy club, because we demand a lot. We have great players, and when you don't start well, it is difficult to do it.

"If he stays, he's not a problem for me, he's one more solution. We leave [the situation] in his hands. Be happy.

"Decide what you want to decide, to be happy. If you decide to leave we are going to help you to leave. If you decide to stay, we are going to support you and try to succeed this season."

Singing Sahin and Carzola would obviously greatly improve the team but unless we sort out our various tactical problems, it won't mean anything. Steve Bould could end up being the most important signing of them all.

 

Will Sahin join Cazorla at Arsenal

With the Cazorla deal all but done (it may even be done by the time this reaches you), Arsene’s attentions will now turn to the signature of one Nuri Sahin. We all know that Arsenal are interested and it now appears that we are in a more advanced stage of the negotiations. Arsenal are looking to bring Sahin in to cover for our two injured midfielders (Wilshere and Rosicky) so, clearly, Wenger doesn’t want to sign another attacking midfielder long term at the moment; meaning a loan deal for Sahin fits the bill perfectly.

There are many reasons being bandied around for why the deal is taking time, but the most common ones are as follows:
A) Arsenal are looking for an option to buy at the end of the loan period, for a set price. The reasons for this are obvious. We don’t want to take the player, let Wenger do his magic, and then just hand Real back a top class player.
B) Madrid are waiting for the signing of Spurs’ Luka Modric before letting Nuri go. I am quite sceptical about this as, even without Modric there, Sahin very rarely got a game for Real’s first team.

Anyway, there are also various opinions as to when the deal will be completed, if at all. There is doubt surrounding the deal because it has been reported that Turkish side Galatasaray are very interested in taking Nuri on loan too. I don’t think that anyone doubts that Arsenal would be his preferred option, but if Galatasaray are more willing to meet Real’s demands, then you never know.

Numerous relatively reliable accounts on Twitter claim that Sahin has spoken to the club and expressed his desire to join us, but there is a significant hold up over the loan fee and the afore-mentioned option to buy. However, The Independent are far more confident about the deal, saying that they expect it to be done in the next 48 hours (which is pretty soon, considering that this was in yesterday’s paper).

All in all, it does look positive for us. Our midfield looks very strong and, as I said yesterday, I think that our defence is essentially solid. As for our striker department, it’s pretty good without RVP, and breathtaking with him.
