Two Arsenal youngsters to go on loan

Posted on September 28, 2012 by Bob

Newly appointed Colchester boss, Joe Dunne, has made short work in shaping the U’s squad with the speedy signatures of a Gunner duo. Arsenal’s Craig Eastmond and Sanchez Watt have both signed on for Colchester on a three-month loan deal. Dunne has spared no time in securing the loan deals having been appointed as manager on Thursday morning. The Arsenal duo agreed to the loan deal within the first 24 hours of their new manager’s appointment as head coach.

Midfielder Eastmond and striker Watt, both 21, have each enjoyed first-team action for the Gunners and also benefited from loan spells away from the Emirates and will be eager to kick start their careers with a successful loan spell with the U’s.

Speaking to Colchester’s official website, Eastmond was quoted as saying, “The first thing I heard about the move was through my agent and he said Colchester United were one of a few clubs interested. I just want to play games so I said yes to it and I’m looking forward to the new challenge.”

Whilst Watt added, “It felt good to be training here and the lads made me feel relaxed and welcome. It looks like the manager plays the same formation as I’m used to so it should be good for me.

“I want to fight for my position in the team, keep my place if I get it and do well for the club and for myself. Hopefully, we can play well, pass the ball around, score some goals and push up the table.’

Both players have great potential and the coaching set up at Arsenal is fantastic but it is sometimes better to experience proper competitive football as it gives the players something different.

We wish them all the best.

Arsenal youngsters looking forward to real European test tonight

Arsenal to take on Olympiacos in the NextGen series tonight by AM

Arsenal’s youngsters have travelled to Greece to take on Olympiacos in their next group game of the NextGen series. This the second group match this season for the Gunners after they Marseille in the opening round.

The Gunners cruised to a 3-0 victory over the French club in their first match this season. Chuba Akpom was the star of that match as he contributed with two goals and an assist. Arsenal are currently 2nd in the group based on goal difference. Atletico Madrid, who thrashed Olympiacos 4-0 in their opening match, lead the group.

If one considers the results of the first round then Arsenal will go into this match as the favorites. But this will be the first away match in this competition for the young guns as they have travelled to Greece. The sort of experience this tournament promised the youngsters to provide as they look to prepare themselves for life in the first team.

Isaac Hayden, who missed put from the starting line-up in the first game, in a blog for the official Arsenal website said – “As much as we enjoyed our first match against Marseille, the fact it was at home meant it didn’t feel radically different to many of our other games. But now we are in a very hot and sunny Greece, it has really brought it home that we are in a European competition.”

The youngster also pointed out how this experience will help the players developing their game for the next level – “We also know it will be hotter than we are used to tonight – but that is all part of the experience. As players we will have to deal with things like this throughout our careers and this is a key step as we prepare for the future.”

Top two teams from each group (6 in total) qualify for the next round along with 4 of the best 3rd placed team among the groups. Atletico and Arsenal are favorites to qualify from Group 6, and a victory away to Olympiacos, a place never easy to travel to, will provide testament to that fact.

Two Arsenal youngsters raring to go

Posted on July 16, 2012 by admin

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Carl Jenkinson can hardly wait for the season to start, and that has to be a good thing. 20-year old Jenkinson and 18-year old Oxlade-Chamberlain began their Arsenal careers at almost the same time after joining the club last summer but had different amounts of success.

Jenkinson made an impressive start and was making progress filling in for Sagna but was unfortunately sidelined for three months with a back injury. The youngster was impressive in the Markus Liebherr memorial cup at the weekend, setting up Henri Lansbury for his goal. Jenkinson is desperate to succeed at Arsenal as he and his family are lifelong Gooners.

The right back is buzzing about the acquisition of Podolski and Giroud. “I am really looking forward to playing alongside them both. Everyone is delighted that we have signed players of that caliber.” Let’s hope his form continues to improvr and that some of his drive and passion rubs off on his team mates.

The Ox had a dream of a first season for Arsenal. He has never looked out of his depth and just takes everything in his stride. His composure and his skill led to his surprise inclusion in the Senior England squad for Euro 2012 and that seems to have increased his appetite for football even more.

The dynamic winger was so eager to get back to Arsenal he asked Arsene Wenger to allow him to start training before he was due in. “To get back into training, see the boys and play football again-I just can’t wait for it.” The youngster must sometimes feel like pinching himself to check he’s not dreaming.

The Ox has gone from the Championship to being the youngest Englishman to score in the Champion’s league and being hailed as the future of English football in less than 12 months.
