Arsenal to take on Olympiacos in the NextGen series tonight by AM

Arsenal’s youngsters have travelled to Greece to take on Olympiacos in their next group game of the NextGen series. This the second group match this season for the Gunners after they Marseille in the opening round.

The Gunners cruised to a 3-0 victory over the French club in their first match this season. Chuba Akpom was the star of that match as he contributed with two goals and an assist. Arsenal are currently 2nd in the group based on goal difference. Atletico Madrid, who thrashed Olympiacos 4-0 in their opening match, lead the group.

If one considers the results of the first round then Arsenal will go into this match as the favorites. But this will be the first away match in this competition for the young guns as they have travelled to Greece. The sort of experience this tournament promised the youngsters to provide as they look to prepare themselves for life in the first team.

Isaac Hayden, who missed put from the starting line-up in the first game, in a blog for the official Arsenal website said – “As much as we enjoyed our first match against Marseille, the fact it was at home meant it didn’t feel radically different to many of our other games. But now we are in a very hot and sunny Greece, it has really brought it home that we are in a European competition.”

The youngster also pointed out how this experience will help the players developing their game for the next level – “We also know it will be hotter than we are used to tonight – but that is all part of the experience. As players we will have to deal with things like this throughout our careers and this is a key step as we prepare for the future.”

Top two teams from each group (6 in total) qualify for the next round along with 4 of the best 3rd placed team among the groups. Atletico and Arsenal are favorites to qualify from Group 6, and a victory away to Olympiacos, a place never easy to travel to, will provide testament to that fact.
