Usmanov using Arsenal stake for greater role in Kroenke regime

Alisher Usmanov is not interested in selling his Arsenal stake to Stan Kroenke, it has been revealed.

The London Evening Standard says Usmanov is keen to seek greater influence in the running of the club and will use his share as a holding stake.

There is no indication at this stage that Usmanov will try to mount a rival takeover, having had a late bid for Lady Nina Bracewell-Smith's 15.9 per cent share rebuffed despite offering £12million more than Kroenke.

It is not yet clear exactly what influence Usmanov is seeking. The billionaire's stake is sufficient to block any major capital restructuring at the club which is not in his interest. However, he will not be able to block any transfers, contract negotiations, commercial ventures or general day-to-day business decisions.
