Carlos Vela finally leaves Arsenal. The Exodus is on the horizon. by KJ
Finally, Arsenal have shifted their first “deadwood” player of the summer. Carlos Vela was a youngster who promised so much to the Arsenal faithful. He was and actually still is an extremely talented individual who unfortunately, failed to adapt to the Premier League.
The statement from Arsenal is below:
Arsenal Football Club has announced that striker Carlos Vela is in San Sebastian this evening for final discussions about a permanent move to Spanish La Liga side Real Sociedad.
The kid was signed for a miniscule fee of £125k in 2005. He had a great season on loan at Salamanca in the Segunda division in Spain. He managed to bag an impressive 8 goals and 15 assists in his 30 appearances.
He was then plucked by Osasuna in La Liga where he scored an average 3 goals and made 4 assists in his 33 appearances.
He then stayed at Arsenal for a whole 3 years where he only managed 29 appearances with only 3 goals and 1 assist. It was appalling to say the least. He just couldn’t cut it in the big league and struggled to break teams down with his movement and skill. He also had his famed chip shot that earned him a bit of glory. Unfortunately, he seemed a bit too reliant on the extravagant and that was his own downfall at Arsenal.
He then went on a brief loan spell to West Brom again not managing to break the first team. He only mustered up 8 appearances with 2 goals and 1 assist.
He finally found a club that suited him in one of the big leagues. He was loaned out to Real Sociedad in Spain where he managed to score an impressive 12 goals and 8 assists. It’s even more impressive considering that the brunt of his goals/assists came during the second half of the season – a trait usually associated with a player successfully transitioning from a different league.
It’s sad to see him go as he had talent. However, it was needed. Arsenal needs to move forward and this is how we’re going to do it.
