Unless something drastic happens next week, then Arsenal’s new signing Lukas Podolski will get his wish and play alongside Robin van Persie in the Arsenal team.
The Dutch striker will return to Arsenal for pre-season training on Monday and, barring injury or a rapid development on his transfer, he will be jetting out with Arsenal for the tour of Asia next weekend.
Podolski says “All I can say is van Persie had an amazing record last season and hopefully there is a way he can stay with Arsenal.”
The Gunners could still be approached with a decent bid for the striker, but despite interest from both Manchester clubs and Juventus, there has not been an offer anywhere near the amount required.
Reports that Manchester City are close to agreeing the sale of Carlos Tevez or Edin Dzeko to AC Milan could, if true, herald an offer from Roberto Mancini. City have already sold Emmanuel Adebayor to Spurs, but they will have to move quickly in order to stop can Persie heading on tour.
We just have to hope that the striker changes his mind after returning to the Arsenal fold and seeing that the Gunners have got a realistic chance of trophies this year. The game against City in Beijing later this month could be very interesting.
