Arsenal News: Denilson extends loan at Sao Paulo

Email

Unwanted Arsenal midfielder Denilson has extended his loan spell at his home club Sao Paulo for the upcoming season, which has been confirmed by the Brazilian himself.

The Brazilian was once a regular in the Arsenal midfield, but was forced to make a move away from the Emirates last year in the quest for regular football.

There were rumours of a return to the Emirates from Brazil for the upcoming season, but with the likes of Jack Wilshere, Mikel Arteta, Alex Song and Francis Coquelin queuing up for places in Arsenal’s midfield, it definitely would have been a difficult return at the very least.

Denilson is quoted as saying by SkySports to Gazeta Esportiva:

I don’t know what happened. I just expressed an interest in staying at Sao Paulo for at least another year. The chiefs on Arsenal’s board helped.

I didn’t talk to Arsene Wenger. My lawyer and I met Sao Paulo’s board and we agreed it would be better if I stayed at the club, and they reached an agreement with Arsenal.

Thank god everything worked out. I’ve been training well and I’m ready for Sunday’s game.

It is pretty clear that this is definitely the right move for Denilson at this stage in his career and perhaps even a permanent move would have been the best option.

Hopefully he continues to enjoy his football in his native country and perhaps secure a permanent move in the future!

Do you have an opinion on Denilson? Should he be brought back? Was it a good choice to stay in Brazil? Feel free to leave a comment below or discuss Denilson in the allArsenal.com forums!
