Reports today suggest that Manchester United and Juventus are confident that Robin van Persie will soon be playing for them. Arsenal have admitted that offers have been received for the Dutch captain, but they have been rejected.
Juventus are thought to have had two offers turned down by Arsenal, who would rather see van Persie in Italy than join a Premier league rival. The general director of Juventus told the Italian media that the striker himself would prefer a move to Turin over Manchester. Giuseppe Marotta also hinted that Arsenal have named their price.
“We know what we have to do, that’s the important thing.”
This does not mean that they will do it, however. Arsenal could have named a price that Juventus will not pay. There are reports in Italy that Juventus may have turned their radar on the young Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic. His fee could be bigger than van Persie’s but his wages would be considerably smaller.
The Mirror reports today that Sir Alex Ferguson has told his close friends that Manchester United will be the destination for van Persie. Apparently this is the reason why he is going to let Dimitar Berbatov go for £5 million. Ferguson believes that the Arsenal striker would rather go to Old Trafford as he would not have to battle with the other superstar strikers at City for a place.
There are no quotes in this story so it could just be invention. Only time will tell.
