Wenger thinks it is time to unleash the Ox.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was bought from Southampton last summer for a total of £10m with £5m in bonuses and instalments. The signing was questioned by the majority of Arsenal fans but were proved wrong by some world class performances from the youngster against the likes of Manchester City, Manchester Utd and even AC Milan.
Wenger remains upbeat with his new prodigy and discusses his prospects in his most recent interview. Here’s what he had to say:
“Last year Alex was still a young boy discovering the Premier League,” said Wenger. “This year he is still a young boy but I think, because of the European Championship, he has matured and improved football-wise.
“It is normal that you move forward quickly at this age and contribute more.
“The European Championship was very good for him confidence-wise, to have the experience with other English players from different clubs to see how they behave, how they prepare for big games, how they play under pressure. Overall, he is on the way up.”
The Euros this summer has been a real eye opener for the Ox. He has learnt to deal with the expectations of the whole nation on his shoulder. His debut will be one of the biggest of his career. He didn’t exactly set the world alight with his performances for England but we also have to appreciate that even Messi struggles internationally.
I really like Chamberlain. He is level headed, well-spoken and always eager to impress. Him and Wilshere are a recipe for success. Easily two of the best youngsters in world football at the moment. I just hope we get to see both play together soon!
