SOME THOUGHTS ON THOMAS EISFELD by AH
When Thomas Eisfeld signed on the last day of the transfer window in January, he was the only player brought in apart from Thierry Henry. We desperately needed extra players to help us pull through the struggle at that time and all that Wenger had delivered on the last day of the window was Eisfeld. Some fans slaughtered him, angry at the sight of Arsenal bringing yet another unknown teenager, but what we didn’t realise at the time was that we had an absolute gem of a player on our hands.
Don’t believe that his lack of playing time at Dortmund was due to a lack of quality; there was simply too much competition there for the teenager while injuries hampered his progress. He managed to score 6 goals and gain an assist in 12 games for the Dortmund U19's though in 2010/2011 which is more than a decent record from midfield.
The German youngster has been one of the standout performers in Arsenal’s preseason so far. His movement and passing has been a joy to watch, not to mention the maturity he displays for such a tender age. He signed off from Asia with a well deserved goal and has impressed many people including Arséne Wenger.
At the last press conference in Asia Wenger said this about Eisfeld;
“He earns maximum points on this trip.”
Wenger clearly has faith in the young German and hopefully he will feature a few times for the Gunners’ this year, especially as Wenger stated he would continue to give the club’s young players first team opportunities. He may be raw, but if nurtured well, he can be a top player and this will only benefit Arsenal.
