There is a deafening lack of information coming from the club about Theo Walcott signing a new contract with Arsenal this summer, and this seems to indicate that he will also be moving along with Robin Van Persie. This has led to a spate of rumours about his possible destination with both Liverpool and Chelsea said to be interested.
I can’t see him going to Liverpool if he is “in search of trophies”, but Chelsea would be a real possibility given that Theo wouldn’t even have to move house, but after securing Eden Hazard I doubt that the Blues would have space to make him a regular first team player. Personally I think he will be persuaded to re-sign by Wenger if they increase the wages on offer.
It seems that Carlos Vela is well on his way to getting his desired permanent move to Spain, with Real Sociedad locked in talks with Arsenal over a compromise. The Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay seems pretty confident a deal can be agreed. He said: “We’re getting somewhere, but there’s nothing set in stone yet,”
“As the talks have evolved, I’m moderately optimistic, but there’s no deal yet.”
That will be one more off the wage bill anyway!
The young Frenchman Mbaye Niang looked like arriving at Arsenal after his trial but there has been no feedback from the club at all on his performance, and now it seems that Tottenham (or even Man City) are also ready to put him through his paces if Arsenal start dragging their heels. Or perhaps they will offer him better personal terms…..
There are a few too many rumours linking Arsenal with the Brazilian ex-starlet Ganso, who was supposed to be the “next big thing” to come out of South America, but injuries and lack of form seem to make him a risky investment as far as I’m concerned, and the prices being quoted are just totally non-Arsenal figures. This one will never happen….
I like the idea from Ray Parlour that Arsenal should get Edin Dzeko from Man City in return for Van Persie going the other way, but again it is nearly impossible given the wages he will be earning at City. I think we are simply going to have to accept that Giroud is the straight replacement for our captain and there will NOT be any more strikers coming in…..
